Georgia Train, an only child, was born in Yorkshire. She grew up in a fairly rural setting with no music scene and just a piano for company. Later she lived in The Lake District and spent a lot of time in India where her parents resided.
Georgia’s musical inspirations came mostly from her Grandmother, Shirley. “I remember that my Grandma bought me my first piano after we’d spent the afternoon playing chopsticks on a toy keyboard, and she took me to see my first Musical in the West End” This was Georgia’s first taste of the stage and since that day, she was hooked. Of course Georgia’s Dad was simultaneously force-feeding her Talking Heads, Kate Bush and some incredibly bizarre horror films (for a little girl). “I remember having a sleepover when I was about eleven years old, my friend and I asked my dad for a cool film to watch, expecting ‘Edward Scissorhands’ or ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’, he came back giggling to himself, clutching a copy of ‘Eraserhead’. All I remember is blood and roast chicken.
Constantly performing wherever possible, Georgia decided to go to Performing Arts School but soon realised that this would not facilitate her songwriting abilities. “I’ve always wanted to be a performer, but more so, a successful songwriter. I need to be the creator of the show...every last detail.” Georgia then attended The Academy of Contemporary Music which she later dropped out as a result of fleeing from a fiery relationship. Towards the very end of this relationship she landed a place on the Degree strand at The Brighton Institute of Modern Music. It was here that she met Ben.
Bitter Ruin formed and both Ben and Georgia passed their degree with first class honours. Georgia also took the initiative to re-educate herself in her instrument and finally passed her Grade 8 vocals exam with distinction. Georgia has always been known for her ability to sing in many different styles and ranges and perhaps this is why she still teaches vocals. Georgia has been teaching people for years and says “I will always have a passion for helping others sing. I get so much pleasure out of it myself, why shouldn’t I want to share that?”
